What is a sensory integration room and can my child benefit from it?
A therapeutic sensory gym can provide many benefits for children with poor sensory processing skills. An occupational therapist can provide proprioceptive, vestibular, movement, and deep pressure activities that engage a child’s central nervous system to aid in calming the child, improving attention, focus, & environmental awareness. Through movement and addressing sensory systems, it helps increase blood flow and endorphins which in turn causes better alertness.
We as practitioners want to provide the most beneficial, educational treatment for our clients. As therapists, we have seen how sensory treatment can promote better attention, improve behavior, improve emotional regulation, and promote language skills.
